除了相位差,还应记录插损幅度变化、回损变化和异常跳变。若出现不可逆漂移,需检查连接器松动、编织或介质受力、局部过小弯曲半径以及端部应力集中,而不能只用一次平均值掩盖。

A test-focused method for evaluating phase and amplitude repeatability after routing and bending a microwave VNA cable assembly.

1. Define the reference plane and measurand

A measured phase shift can come from the cable, connector re-mating, adapters, instrument drift or temperature. Record the reference plane, frequency span, points, IF bandwidth, power, calibration method and S-parameter, then hold the rest of the path fixed.

2. Make connector handling a controlled variable

  • Clean and inspect every interface; record adapters and connector combinations
  • Use the specified torque tool and the same connection sequence
  • Separate bend-only trials from bend-and-remate trials
  • Support cable weight so it does not load the analyzer port

3. Use a repeatable bend path

Specify bend radius, angle, position, direction and dwell time. A marked fixture or template should reproduce the path from the reference position to the bent position. For installations with several bends, test both a single controlled bend and the complete routed condition.

4. Watch phase, amplitude and mechanical condition together

Record insertion-loss magnitude, return loss and discontinuities alongside phase. Irreversible drift should trigger inspection for loose interfaces, stressed shielding or dielectric, a locally tight bend and termination strain concentration—not be hidden in one average number.

5. Keep an auditable data set

A useful phase-stability requirement always includes frequency, length, bend condition and temperature. A single number without those boundaries is difficult to compare across test systems.

  • Repeat the baseline enough times to estimate instrument and connection noise
  • Run defined bend cycles and return to the same reference position at each checkpoint
  • Record temperature, stabilization time, operator and connector torque
  • Report selected-frequency values and the worst deviation across the band
  • Retain raw Touchstone files and fixture photographs
